Ductwork, Ventilation & Sheet Metal in Bedford

Bedford's larger, newer homes lean toward furnace conversions and ducted heat-pump retrofits on existing forced-air systems, plus finished-basement ductwork and whole-home ventilation that needs proper air balancing.

The homes we work on in Bedford

Bedford and West Bedford are dominated by larger two-storey homes in newer subdivisions — Bedford South, West Bedford, Paper Mill Lake — most with existing ducted forced-air heating and finished or developing basements. Here the challenge is usually balance across multiple levels, not whether duct exists at all.

  • Larger two-storey homes with existing forced-air ducting
  • Executive subdivisions in West Bedford and Bedford South
  • Finished and developing basements needing added supply and returns
  • Multi-level layouts where upper floors run hot or cold

What a Bedford furnace conversion usually involves

Most Bedford furnace conversions add a ducted heat pump to an existing furnace's ductwork. The duct is there — the work is confirming it's sized for the new equipment, balancing airflow between floors, and finishing basement runs cleanly.

  • Adapting existing furnace ductwork for a ducted heat pump
  • Air balancing so upper floors and bonus rooms stay comfortable
  • Finished-basement supply and return runs
  • Air exchanger (HRV/ERV) upgrades and range-hood make-up air for tighter newer homes

New builds in Bedford

Bedford's larger custom and spec homes need ductwork engineered for the square footage — proper trunk sizing, zoning, and ventilation designed in rather than retrofitted.

  • Trunk-and-branch sized for larger floor plans
  • Multi-zone layouts for two- and three-storey homes
  • ERV/HRV and balanced ventilation built into the design
Heat pumps in Bedford: We handle the air side — ductwork, ventilation, and airflow. Refrigerant connections, AC, and commissioning are handled by our licensed RACM heat-pump partners, so the full install is done properly. Refrigerant work is a compulsory certified trade in Nova Scotia.

Ductwork, balancing & conversion FAQsBedford

Do I need new ductwork for a furnace conversion in Bedford?

Usually not new — but usually adjusted. Most Bedford homes already have full forced-air ducting from a furnace, so the work is confirming it's sized for the heat pump's higher airflow, balancing between floors, and rebuilding the plenum and coil transition. That's a smaller job than a home starting with no duct at all. We assess before any equipment is ordered.

Why is our upstairs hot and the basement freezing?

In Bedford's two- and three-storey homes this is almost always a distribution problem, not an equipment one — the trunk isn't sized for the run, the upper floors are starved, and there's not enough return air pulling from the top of the house. Air balancing, resized branches and added returns fix it. Replacing the system rarely does on its own.

Can you duct a finished or developing basement in Bedford?

Yes — added supply and return runs for basement living space is some of our most common Bedford work. The trick is routing it cleanly through finished ceilings and making sure the added load doesn't starve the floors above, which means looking at the whole system rather than just dropping in a few new registers.

Do you install air exchangers (HRV/ERV) in Bedford?

Yes — and newer, tighter Bedford homes are exactly the stock that needs one. An air exchanger and an HRV are the same thing. We install and replace them, duct them to the rooms that need it, and balance supply against exhaust so the unit actually does its job instead of just running.

Do you install the heat pump itself in Bedford?

No — we do the air side: ductwork, returns, transitions, balancing and ventilation. Refrigerant connections and commissioning go to our licensed RACM heat-pump partners, so the full install is done properly and the rebate-eligible work stays with a licensed installer.

From Bedford South to West Bedford, our work is mostly about getting larger homes balanced — even airflow on every floor, basement to bonus room. TrueFlow is owned and operated by Caleb Pardy, Sheet Metal Worker, serving Bedford and the rest of Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), Nova Scotia.
